Animal welfare - viewpoint that some or all animals, especially those under human care, should be treated in such a way that they do not suffer unnecessarily. Animal welfarists believe that animal experimentation is necessary so long as the animal is being well cared for and benefits humanity. They don't want to eliminate meat factories altogether, but simply want for the improvement of the care of the animals that are being slaughtered. Animal rights - movement to protect animals from being used or regarded as property by human beings. ARAs (animal rights activists) believe animals are not ours to own, or to use for the purposes of food, entertainment, cosmetics, clothing, scientific testing, etc. Now, I would consider myself an animal welfarist. I don't like unnecessary suffering of animals, but I do believe good can come out of scientific testing on animals (diseases and the like). Also, I'm an omnivore and it's been recently proven that humans need B12 for healthy nerve and blood cells and the production of DNA ( www.msnbc.msn.com/id/10086995/).
